Education:

Dr. HU earned his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of California at Berkeley, and both his Master’s degree and Doctoral (PsyD) degree in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University. He completed training rotations at the Autism Intervention Clinic at Children’s Hospital Oakland, the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and the Portia Bell Hume Center in California in addition to the Shaanxi Provincial People’s Hospital in Xi’An, CHINA.

Background:

Dr. George Hu, PsyD is a licensed clinical psychologist from the United States and is the Section Chief of Mental Health at Shanghai United Family Pudong Hospital.  He is licensed as a clinical psychologist in California, Hawaii, Beijing, and Shanghai. Previously, Dr. Hu was the Director of Mental Health at Jiahui Health in Shanghai, the Clinical Director at Octave Living, and clinical psychologist and Assistant Director of the Center for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy at Beijing United Family Hospital.

Dr. Hu provides psychotherapy for adults, children, couples, and families, and also performs psychoeducational and psychodiagnostic assessment for children and adults. Dr. Hu consults with international and private primary and secondary schools in Beijing and Shanghai where he provides clinical services, assessments, and consults on the development of counseling, student support, and crisis management services.  He is a clinical faculty member at Palo Alto University and provides clinical consultation in many parts of the world, including Southeast Asia and Central Asia.  Dr. Hu is currently the Vice President of the Shanghai International Mental Health Association (SIMHA; www.s-imha.org) and is a Board member of REACH Shanghai, a community organization dedicated to improving access to mental health; and Safe Haven Shanghai, an organization committed to providing services to victims of domestic violence.

He has been invited as an honorary guest speaker and lecturer at the Shanghai International Mental Health Association, Tsinghua University, Huadong University, Jiaotong University Medical School, the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and the American Psychological Association, just to name a few.  Dr. Hu is passionate about early intervention, children’s mental health, Chinese mental health, and improving access to mental health for underserved populations.
