Dr. Sarai Nietvelt provides warm, patient centered, and comprehensive family medicine care. She aims to improve your entire health and wellbeing by focusing on prevention as well as treatment. Her care is not limited by cause – age – or organ system involved. She is skilled at providing well baby checkups to adolescent medicine, well woman care and chronic disease management.

Education: 

Dr. Sarai Nietvelt received her medical degree from the Catholic University of Leuven in her native Belgium. She completed advanced training in Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine and Tropical Medicine. Additionally, Dr. Nietvelt holds a post-graduate Diploma in Child Health from the University of Sydney, an extensive online professional development, focused on the current best practice in Pediatric medicine.

Dr. Nietvelt is a member of the Belgian Society of General Practitioners.

Background: 

Dr. Nietvelt joined Shanghai United Family Hospital in 2006. Before coming to SHU she practiced medicine at a global level for ten years – big hospitals or remote locations in many countries (Belgium, Argentina …).

Dr. Nietvelt lives in Suzhou and is well known as a physician in the expatriate community of Shanghai, where she has been working since 2006. From 2012 – 2015 she provided prenatal classes and lactation advice for the Suzhou community. From 2009 – 2018 she also served the Wuxi community by working for Wuxi United Health Care Centre.

Since 2014 Dr. Sarai has led the Family Medicine Fellowship Program at Shanghai United Family Hospital. She has developed an effective curriculum for talented Chinese physicians and makes organizational plans for educational innovations in her institution.

She is fluent in English, Dutch, French and Spanish and understands the basics of Mandarin and German.
